The Yamas: Satya/Truthfulness

According to the Bhagavad Gita, “Yoga is the journey of the self, through the self, to the self.” What is the self this is referring to? It is our ultimate, TRUE nature. Yoga connects us with our truth, and it is our duty to act in accordance with this truth every day. There are many societal pressures which try to pull us away from our authentic selves in order to please certain groups, and fit in to certain molds. We know deep down when we are not acting in accordance to our truths. We can feel it in our gut, something just doesn’t “feel right” when we are working to “fit in” or please someone while acting in a way that is out of alignment with our own principles.

I’ve felt this way many times in my life. First in elementary/middle school when I was trying to fit in with the “cool kids” (I was never a cool kid 😂), then later still trying to fit in with groups or people I had nothing in common with, working for bosses who tried to change my behavior and corporations that wanted everything done “their way.” I was unhappy, I felt unsure and doubtful of myself. When I started practicing yoga and meditation regularly, I was given the tools to realign with my truth, get to know myself on a deeper level, and change my life, to live in the best way for me. I know now what that is- sharing my passion for and knowledge of this practice with all of YOU in the best way I know how- not in accordance with anyone else’s dogma or corporate standards. I can no longer hide from my truth and try to teach somewhere just to make a buck if it doesn’t align with my values or allow me to teach authentically from my heart.

So thank you for allowing me to share my truth with you every day ✨🙏🏼💗

When do you feel your most authentic self? How do you intend to live your truth every day?
